Learn moreAlmost every failed bathroom we get called into failed the same way — water got behind the tile. That layer is invisible, it is not glamorous, and it is the difference between fifteen years and three.
We self-perform the waterproofing on every bathroom we build. Proper backing, correct slope to the drain, membranes lapped the right direction, and a water test before a single tile goes on.
After that comes the part you see: vanities set level, tile laid out so the pattern centers on the room, lighting that works for getting ready and not just for photos, and fixtures matched to the plumbing behind them.

Before
After
We price every project individually after walking the space — so rather than publish numbers that would not apply to your home, here is what actually moves the total, and how to compare bids fairly.
A low bid is often just a smaller scope. When you compare estimates, check that each one includes permits, the same allowances, debris removal, and the same level of demolition. Ask every contractor what happens when they find something unexpected — the answer tells you more than the number does.
Verify any license at cslb.ca.gov before you sign anything. Ours is #1125128.
Real durations from our own jobs. Permitting is the phase most homeowners underestimate — it is controlled by the building department, not by us.
| Phase | Typical duration | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Consult & measure | 1 day | We look at the existing shower, subfloor and venting, and talk realistic scope. |
| Design & selections | 1–3 weeks | Layout, tile and fixture selections locked before demo starts. |
| Permits | 2–5 weeks | Required whenever plumbing moves or walls change. |
| Demo | 2–3 days | Everything out, subfloor and framing inspected for damage. |
| Rough-in & inspection | 3–5 days | Plumbing, electrical and venting set, then inspected before we close anything. |
| Waterproofing | 2–3 days | Backer, membrane, slope and a flood test on the pan. |
| Tile & finish | 1–2 weeks | Tile, grout, vanity, fixtures, glass, paint and final walkthrough. |
A starting menu, not a limit. If you want something that is not on here, ask.
We remodel bathrooms across Santa Maria, Orcutt, Nipomo, Lompoc and Santa Barbara. Older housing stock here often hides galvanized supply lines and cast-iron drains behind the tile — we plan for that instead of being surprised by it.

A full gut on a standard bathroom is usually 4 to 6 weeks including inspection hold points. Tile and fixture lead times can add to that, so we lock selections early.
Yes — curbless showers, blocking for grab bars, comfort-height fixtures, wider doorways and ramps. Building the blocking in now costs very little and saves a demo later.
Yes. It is the single most common failure point in a bathroom, so we never subcontract it. We water test the pan and have it inspected before tile goes on.
On older homes it happens. We stop, photograph it, and bring you the repair options with prices before continuing. Nothing gets billed that you did not approve first.
If you plan to stay in the house, yes. It looks better, it is far easier to clean, and it means you never have to renovate again for mobility reasons. It does require altering the floor framing, so it is not the cheapest option.
If it is your only bathroom we will tell you that up front and sequence the work to minimize the days it is out of service. For a second bathroom, it is usually a non-issue.
